I have a large collection of beanies.  Beanies with pom-poms, blue beanies, brown beanies, cable-knit beanies, you name it.  I purchase them readily and enthusiastically.  I imagine wearing them with countless trendy outfits, and I dream up ways to style my hair with them.

Also, I never, ever wear them.

The why here is interesting.  I feel like I have to be a committed hipster to wear a slouchy, knit hat.  I get up in the morning, glance at my growing beanie museum, ponder it a little, and ultimately decide that I need to complain more about capitalism first.

Seriously, it’s getting ridiculous.  I feel like there’s no amount of time I can spend in the back of an old record store to give me license to wear a beanie.  And honestly, that says a lot about me.  It means that maybe I don’t always wear what I like, and instead wear the message I want to send.  It’s always in the back of my mind when I’m getting dressed.  Am I wearing too much black?  Is this too revealing?  I don’t want to be perceived as emo or slutty, god forbid both.

A lot of what I would like to wear never makes it in the shopping bag out of pure fear.  But you know what?  I’m done.  I will be a slutty, emo hipster if that’s what it takes to wear my style.  And I honestly don’t want to interact with anyone that wants to bitch about my clothes.  If you’re going to make assumptions about me, fine.  I’m guessing you’re the type to start a sentence by saying, “I hate it when girls…”

And you know what?  Girls don’t care.  Starting now, you can keep your stereotypical views of us to yourself.  Because you know what I call guys like you?  Single.

Do you wear what you want?  Do you like beanies?  Comment and let me know or whatever.
